A handbag is so much more than just an accessory. It’s your trusty travel companion, a mini-universe, and can sometimes even be your lifesaver. But how do you make sure you can always find what you need without diving into a chaotic maze of loose items, old receipts, and missing keys? A bag that’s not only stylish, but also functional — isn’t that just the best of both worlds?
Don’t worry! With a few clever tips, your handbag can be both a fashion statement and fully organised.
1. Start fresh
Take the time to completely empty your handbag. Yes, take everything out! This gives you an overview of what you’re actually carrying around every day.
2. Sort everything
Organise the contents! What truly belongs in your bag, and what has secretly become clutter? Say goodbye to items you rarely or never use. Old receipts, broken hair clips, three lip balms, candy wrappers? Out they go.
Pro tip: Minimalism is your friend. The less you carry, the easier it is to find what you need. This makes sure you always have an organised handbag.
3. Clean your bag
A clean bag is not only more pleasant to use, but it’s also better for its longevity. Wipe the interior with a soft dry cloth or a slightly damp one if needed. For leather bags, a simple eraser can sometimes remove small marks, but I always recommend using a proper leather cleaner to keep it looking as good as new.

4. Choose the right bag
Having the right bag makes all the difference. Whether it’s a handbag or a tote, pick one that’s large enough to fit your daily essentials, but not so big that things get lost in it. If your current bag is too small or too large, it might be time to switch it out for another one in your collection. Can’t find the right one? Or maybe it’s the perfect excuse to treat yourself to a new bag that better suits your needs! Or even better, have a bespoke one made!
5. Tailored to your lifestyle
Every lifestyle needs a different kind of bag. Some people love structure and prefer plenty of inner compartments to keep everything tidy, while others go for a simpler design. That’s why I offer bespoke bags in my Brussels atelier.
Dreaming of a bag that fits your daily habits and routines perfectly? I’m happy to listen to your wishes and work together to design a unique handbag tailored to your style, life and routine. Think of extra compartments, a special spot for your laptop, or a bag in your favourite colour and size.
6. Organise like a pro
An organised bag starts with organising smartly. Designate a specific spot for your most used items, such as your phone, keys, and wallet. Make optimal use of the compartments and inner pockets in your bag and give everything its own place.
You can do it for example like this:
- Pocket 1: Keys
- Pocket 2: Lip balm/lipstick and earbuds
- Pocket 3: Wallet and phone
This way, you can find anything in seconds and avoid digging around every time you need something.
7. Create a system
Creating structure means developing a system that works for you. For some, that’s a minimalist approach; for others, it means using pouches and smaller organisers inside their bag.

Do you always lose your keys? Consider attaching a keyring or key leash inside your bag. No more frantic searching at the front door!
8. Maintain it with a weekly check
Organisation is an ongoing process. Set aside a moment at least once a week to freshen up your bag. Toss out old receipts, remove anything you no longer need, and enjoy a clean and clutter-free handbag once again.
With these tips, your bag will not only be a stylish eye-catcher, but also a practical partner-in-crime. Curious for more? Explore my collection of sustainable handmade bags, small leather goods and bamboo clothing.
